GOTHIC FREE WALKING TOUR

Join our Gothic Quarter Free Walking Tour! Discover Barcelona’s old town neighbourhood.  Learn about Catalan history, culture and traditions.

From its humble beginnings 2000 years ago as an innocuous fishing port to it´s modern international standing explore the city’s growth: from Roman consolidation, Christian and Jewish persecution, imperial expansion, industrial explosion, political identity and artistic flourishing. We’ll  meet the ghosts of martyred Christians, iconic painters, war-like kings, religious legends, the mediaeval hangman and many more – all of whom have left a cultural and physical mark on the old town of Barcelona.

Firstly, we start from Plaza Catalunya. Then, we take you along the narrow Gothic Quarter streets. We will visit La Rambla, the Cathedral, Jewish Quarter and Roman tombs . What’s more, get to know 2 milenia of Catalan history and culture. Also, get to know their art, architecture, music and the best chocolate and Churros in town!  All this leading up to the 1992 Summer Olympics and its subsequent modern international standing.

Meanwhile, we meet Christian saints and martyrs, as well as Christopher Columbus and Picasso

On the Gothic Quarter Free Walking Tour we’ll find out what lies within the Catalan people;  what makes them “tick” and ,more importantly, why! We’ll bring to life the stories, humour, triumphs and disasters that go to the soul of the Catalan people. Oh yeah, and  we´ll also meet a VERY HAIRY CATALAN MAN!!
