GOTHIC FREE WALKING TOUR
Join our Gothic Quarter Free Walking Tour! Discover Barcelona’s oldest neighbourhood. Learn about Catalan history, culture and traditions.
Firstly, we start from Plaza Catalunya. Then, an experienced guide will take you along the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter. What´s more, get to know 2000 years of Catalan history and culture. Also, their art, architecture, music, and the best chocolate and Churros in town. ! We´ll explore the city’s growth. From its humble beginnings in the 1st century as an innocuous fishing port. Then see a Roman consolidation, a Christian imperial expansion, and, after that,an industrial explosion. All this leading to the 1992 Summer Olympics and its subsequent modern international standing.
Walking through the winding streets we´ll visit La Rambla, the Cathedral, Jewish Quarter and Roman tombs. What’s more, we´ll see Jewish persecution, political identity, and modern artistic flourishing.
Meanwhile, we meet Christian saints and martyrs, as well as Christopher Columbus and Picasso. At the same time, we encounter war-like kings, medieval hangmen and obscure folk art. And, above all, a very hairy Catalan man! Yet, all have left an imprint on the close- quartered streets of Barcelona´s original district.
So, join us! And, in short, let´s see what makes these people “tick”!
